DONATE: About Our Annual Appeal
Each October/November, during the four weeks before Thanksgiving, we usually hold the MLK Friends Annual Appeal, our ONE and ONLY fundraising event of the year.
Dear MLK Families,
It’s that time of year again! MLK Friends, the parent volunteer group, has become a vital source of funding for our school. Collectively, we support enrichment activities that directly benefit our students. Teachers and staff turn to us when they need money for items not covered in the school budget. We can’t do this without your help!
We fund teacher requests, field trips, class breakfasts, community-building events, such as the yearly picnic, and many more – we’re sure you’ve all participated in these events. Last year we also funded the MathTrail installation on the playground, we hope it leads to many playful math explorations for MLK students.
In order to fund these activities, we run one fundraiser each year. Last year, we raised $28,000 from 148 families and spent $35,000. This year we hope to match last years’ amount of donations to be able to continue providing the same level of enrichment activities for students – every single donation helps, no matter the amount.
Thank you for making Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School such a wonderful place of learning, opportunity, and community.

During the Appeal period, we ask families to donate generously. In return, we do not ask families to buy or sell pizza, baked goods, candy, wrapping paper, magazine subscriptions, or clothing, nor do we ask families to walk, run, dance, or drag themselves through mud in order to raise money for our school.
In previous years, we raised over $25,000 through our Annual Appeal.
(Before 2017, we sold a lot of pizza and pestered people to buy stuff, and everyone was tired!).
