Bryan Collier
will visit the MLKing School (online) October 19, 2020
Sponsored by parent group MLK Friends

Mr. Collier will give three presentations online: one to JK-K students, one to 1-2 grade students and one to 3-5 grade students. MLK friends is seeking parent volunteers to assist with this online visit. Please email Christina at mlkfriendsgroup@gmail.com

 

Bryan Collier is a beloved illustrator known for his unique style combining watercolor and detailed collage. He is a four-time Caldecott Honor recipient for Trombone Shorty, Dave the Potter, Martin’s Big Words, and Rosa. His books have won many other awards as well, including six Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards. His recent books include By and By, Thurgood, The Five O’Clock Band, and Between the Lines.  (Website)


To order books through through our local bookstore Porter Square Books:
– Go to the form https://www.portersquarebooks.com/wishlist/456
– Click “Add to cart” next to the book you want to order.
– You will then be able to view your cart and order more than one book if you would like to. (You don’t need to do anything with the columns with “wanted” and “have” on the main page.
– Books will be available for pickup at the store or to be shipped to you about two weeks after the October 26, when the order window closes.  

 

 

Online Meetups to Connect New and Returning Families

We welcome new and returning families to connect with other new and returning families at the online events listed below.

These events are organized by MLK Friends, the nonprofit parent group for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School. MLK Friends helps build and strengthen community at our school in many ways including:
1) MLK Friends organizes and hosts events to connect families outside of school.
2) MLK Friends works with the school to host events
3) MLK Friends recruits room parents to connect families within classrooms. A room parent gathers contact info from other families in their child’s classroom and hosts social events. The room parent works with the teacher to identify ways the teacher wants parents to be involved at school. We welcome you to be involved – see the questions below.

Please RSVP to the events below so we can send you the log-in information. We welcome you to attend attend as many events as you would like. Note that we may postpone events if RSVPs are low, so please do include your email so we can contact you if events change.
